About The Group

At present Southbourne WI meets every third Wednesday of the month  at 10.45am to 12.45pm.

We meet in All Saints Church Hall, which is on the corner of Oxford Road / Castlemain Road in Southbourne.

We are a middle sized group and are very active. Our meeting usually begins with the singing of Jerusalem followed by the formal part of the session when business is discussed. We offer competitions, sales table and either welcome a speaker to talk to us on various matters of interest or hold a games evening such as curling, beetle drive and, on occasions, have been known to catch ping pong balls in bras pinned to the wall (the bras not the person!).

Each month we offer groups such as canasta, book club and craft group. We also have coffee mornings once a month and occasionally meet for lunch and / or a walk. We join with other WI's in our area for special occasions such as festive get togethers, fetes and parties. Members pick and choose what they want to take part in, if anything.

The ethos of the WI is to empower women everywhere and we are working Nationwide to help eradicate plastic soup and alleviate loneliness. At our WI we have worked to knit red Beanie hats for premature babies, twiddle mitts for dementia patients and have donated to the RBH appeal for money towards the new scanner.

On the whole we are a mature group of ladies but warmly welcome any lady who would like to join us.

Please contact our secretary for any further information.  Hoping to see you soon!
